Barking is normal behavior for dogs and is one of their
primary ways of communicating. For this reason, it isn’t
healthy to keep your dog in a bark control collar
permanently. For dogs that engage in excessive barking, a
bark collar should be worn no more than 12 hours a day. It
doesn’t take long for most dogs to make the connection
between barking and the correction. Many pet parents see
improved behavior within a week or so of placing the collar.
And bark training collars always work best as part of a
no-bark training program.
As your dog responds to the collar and to the training,
begin cutting back on the time your dog wears the collar.
Some dogs will continue their progress with less collar
time, while other dogs will backslide and start barking
again. If your dog begins barking again, increase the bark
collar time and wait another few weeks before cutting back
on collar time again. Eventually, most pet parents can take
the bark training collar off completely, though some dogs
will require daily collar time or will need to wear the
collar every so often as an ongoing training reminder.
