Alternative Rawhide
Dogs naturally tend to chew on things, and your dog is no different—especially when teething. If they aren’t provided with anything to chew on, they will most likely gnaw on things around the house, like a couch, your shoes, articles of clothing, kids’ toys and just about anything else with an enticing scent and texture. While numerous pet parents choose to give their canine a bone or antler to bite down on, it’s become more popular to use no-hide dog chews—and at Petco, we carry a diverse selection of rawhide-free bones.
Rawhide chews are made from dried animal skin—which sounds perfectly fine for pets, but concerns have been made about other ingredients they contain. Other concerns raised about them involve their digestibility—or possible lack thereof. However, the digestibility of rawhides varies from dog to dog and from chew to chew. Some of the rawhides will break apart easily, creating a serious choking problem if the chunks are too big. Even small pieces can remain undigested somewhere in their stomach, causing gastrointestinal issues. That’s why rawhide alternative bones are becoming more and more popular among pet parents.
