Fludrocortisone Acetate: A mineralocorticoid (hormone) that regulates electrolytes and water balance in the body. Pet’s suffering from Addison’s disease or high potassium levels take this medicine to replace low levels of mineralocorticoid hormone, which affects the levels of potassium, sodium, and chloride in the blood. Oral tablets can be given with food to both dogs and cats.
Methimazole: An antithyroid medication that can also be used to protect kidneys in dogs taking cisplatin, an anti-cancer drug. Methimazole for cats treats hyperthyroidism by stopping the thyroid gland from producing too much of the thyroid hormone. It’s available in both a 5 mg and 10 mg tablet for proper dosing.
