Cultured Maxima Clams exhibit exquisite colors of blue that are very vibrant. They have patterns that are never the same, which will make whatever Maxima you get very special. Maxima Clams can be identified by their non-symmetric, elongated shell and have thinly spaced scutes. Clams do best under bright light, in clean water and at least moderate flow. They are filter feeders meaning they filter the water for particulate food. The hobbyist will have to supplement their diet with planktonic foods. As the clam grows, they will require less supplemented feedings. Maxima Clams have byssal threads that they use to attach themselves to substrate. Never forcibly remove an attached clam because these threads can be badly damaged. Keep in mind that the first spot you choose could become the clam's permanent placement because of those threads.

  • For continued health, supplement with planktonic foods
  • Drip acclimation is recommended
  • Supplement calcium and alkalinity levels
  • Prefers higher salinity
  • Cannot tolerate copper medications
  • Maxima Clams are graded based on the intensity of their patterns and colors. The better colors and patterns will receive a better grading. Ultra Clams have more detailed pattern while 1st grade has more vibrant colorations
