Aquacultured 1st Grade Crocea Clam
Cultured 1st Grade Crocea Clams are the smallest out of the Tridacna clams and can be identified by their smooth shell. The Crocea Clam comes in an array of colors: purple, green and blue with tan and orange spots. They are known to burrow into the substrate more than other clams for protection from predators. Clams do best under bright light, in clean water and at least moderate flow. They are also filter feeders meaning they filter the water for particulate food. The hobbyist will have to supplement their diet with planktonic foods. As the clam grows, they will require less supplemented feedings. These clams have byssal threads that they use to attach themselves to substrate. Never forcibly remove an attached clam because these threads can be badly damaged. Keep in mind that the first spot you choose could become the clam's permanent placement because of those threads.
