Black Longspine Urchin
The Black Long Spine Urchin is a great addition to any aquarium for multiple reasons. These urchins will help control algae growth, especially for aquariums with aggressive fish. Some fish have adapted to swimming and living between the long spines for protection. You can add the Long Spine Urchin to an aquarium with cultured Banggai Cardinal and watch as a symbiotic relationship is revealed in the aquarium. Use caution when handling urchins because they are venomous, which causes painful swelling and itching. They have a very unique way of moving around the aquarium by using a water vascular system. There are water canals through the inside of the urchin that pump water through the madreporite (red eye), which allows their small tube feet to move around the aquarium. Supplement their diet once and a while with dried seaweed.
