Blue Gourami
The Blue Gourami is very popular due to their unusual body shape and peaceful temperament. They are a Labyrinth Fish and must have access to the surface of the tank to breathe. This Gourami uses this specialized organ to breath in poorly oxygenated waters in the wild. They have a square shaped, thin, compressed body and are characterized by two long thread-like pelvic fins. This Gourami has a small adult size, so they are ideal for smaller aquariums. Gouramis are a great recommendation for beginner hobbyists due to their hardiness and ease in care. They prefer planted aquariums and peaceful tank mates. Darker substrates will help show off their vibrant colors. The Blue Gourami is an omnivore that requires foods that are meat and algae based.
