Halimeda Plant
The Halimeda Algae is a slow-growing, non-invasive plant that is a great recommendation for anybody looking for saltwater "plants." This beneficial macroalgae is very hardy and will act as a beautiful decorative plant while controlling excess nutrients, like nitrates and phosphates, and providing oxygen, which in turn stabilizes the pH. Halimeda is a calcareous form of algae, so in addition to light, they require a sufficient amount of calcium in order to grow and thrive. Because different kinds of algae will sometimes chemically compete with each other, you may not want to put more than one type of algae within one aquarium. Feel free to place them just about anywhere in the aquarium, though they will respond best to moderate lighting and can acclimate to very bright light slowly. Due to the calcareous nature of this alga, few fish will consume it; however, many herbivore fish (tangs, angels, rabbits etc) will nip at it, and Halimeda is very intolerant of this.
