Horned Nerite Snail
The Horned Nerite Snail is a great addition to help keep uneaten food and algae low in community and planted aquariums. They are peaceful snails that won't bother other snails, fish, or plants. They only reproduce in brackish water, so you don't have to worry about them taking over your aquarium like other snails. Like many others, the Nerite Snail doesn't have a long lifespan and will need to be replaced every year or so. Since this snail mostly relies on detritus and algae as food, if that becomes scarce, supplement their diet with sinking pellets. Horned Nerites specialize in algae and biofilm removal, making them ideal for aquariums where less glass cleaning is desired. Providing uncleaned surfaces like rocks, driftwood, or an algae-covered tank wall ensures they have enough food. This feeding requirement means you should be somewhat careful about overstocking Horned Nerites, especially in aquariums with other effective algae eaters. We recommend around 3 per 10 gallons of display.
