These attractive snakes are desirable because they are readily tamed. Captive-bred rosy and sand boas are usually very docile.

  • Females are generally larger than males
  • Enjoy burrowing, so a thick layer of sand or other loose substrate is recommended
  • As their name suggests, these snakes enjoy burrowing in the sand, and have their nostrils and eyes nearer to the top of their head to remain clear while burrowed in substrate
  • While burrowed, their head remains above ground, ready to strike at passing prey
