Lactated Ringer's Injectable Solution 

 

If your pet is suffering a kidney disease or other illness, they may be experiencing decreased hydration and intake of fluids. It can be crucial that those lost fluids are replaced to ensure your pet's long-term well-being, and a lactated ringer's electrolyte solution can help. 

 

Lactated ringer's solution is a prescription medication that works to help return the proper balance of electrolytes to your pet's body. Ringer's solution contains many of the same electrolytes that blood produces naturally, like sodium lactate, potassium chloride and water. Ringer's lactate can be given to your dog or cat intravenously or subcutaneously, depending on the health condition of your pet. Consult your veterinarian to find out what medical solution your pet needs and the type of prescription medication that should be administered. 

 

Kidney disease and other illnesses can also be responsible for physical pain in addition to dehydration. Along with lactated ringer's solution, Petco has a variety of prescription pain relief medications that can help with the pain that can come from conditions requiring electrolyte solutions. Lactated ringer's solution can be administered intravenously or subcutaneously, so you will likely need sterile hypodermic needles, a fluid administration set, syringes or a similar delivery method.
