The Lyretail Wrasse has exquisite coloration, hardiness and large adult size of 10" that make them very desirable in the aquarium hobby. When young, these are relatively reef safe. But as they age, they are more likely to consume motile inverts of all types, including snails, crabs, sea stars and even urchins. Feeding them multiple times a day is recommended as they are very active and keeping them full will help keep them away from desirable inverts. In addition, they are known predators of a myriad of unwanted pests like bristle worms and mantis shrimp. They are capable jumpers at all stages of their life, so a covered aquarium is necessary. Juveniles are mostly blue with some black spots and blotch caudal tail. Adults turn green and the black blotch will turn yellow. Blue and orange outlines this wrasse's fins.
