Additional Details

Goldfish are a great starter fish to recommend for ponds and aquariums. The Red & White Ryukin Goldfish has a white body with red markings. All Ryukin Goldfish have a hump right behind its head, curved backbone, fate belly and long fins. They are very hardy and will eat just about anything that is fed to them. The Red & White Ryukin will get to be about 8" in size which is smaller than other large as other Ryukins and will need a large aquarium or pond when full grown. They are considered diggers, so use caution when adding plants because they can get uprooted. They will eat just about any pellet or flake that you offer, however, be sure the food has vegetable foods in it. Freshwater food with vegetables will help prevent swim bladder problems.

Indigenous to the waters of Japan, the Ryukin Goldfish bears a striking resemblance to the Fantail goldfish with the exception of their higher backbone and hump back, which creates a slightly pointed appearance. Boasting remarkable red and white splotches throughout its body, the Red & White Ryukin goldfish is frequently seen in many outdoor ponds and larger aquariums of 30 gallons or more. As a popular species of goldfish, Ryukin goldfish also make for an excellent choice of pond fish or aquarium fish for novice aquarists as they are relatively easy to care for and to maintain. Like many other types of gold fish, Ryukin goldfish will eat almost anything, such as aquarium plants. This is why it is not typically suggested for them to be around live aquarium plants as they may take bites out of them, making it difficult for your plants to survive. As with many other species of goldfish, Ryukin goldfish tend to produce a great deal of ammonia, which is why it is always recommended that they be kept in larger aquariums or ponds with a capacity of at least 30 gallons.
