Redtail Butterfly
The Redtail Butterfly adapts fairly well to life in an aquarium, which makes them an ideal fish. Unless a mate pair this butterfly should kept singly. They won't do well with fish that are overly aggressive, but they will also nip and pick at fish that are very timid. Initially, these butterflies can be shy; making sure there are plenty of hiding places, which will help them acclimate. Like most butterflies, we don't recommend placing them in reef aquariums because they are very likely to consume a variety of coral polyps. These will benefit from multiple feedings a day of frozen meaty foods, and adding algae to their diet will give them things to graze on, mimicking their wild eating behavior. This butterfly will grow to be about 7" in size and will need ample swimming space. The Redtail Butterfly is mostly brown in coloration with hints of maroon in its fins. Their face has a black and white mask. They are found in the Indo-West Pacific inhabiting coral reefs up to 20 meters deep.
