Ruby Dragonet
The Red Dragonet is a cute, bottom dwelling fish that is perfect for an aquarium with other passive feeders. These little guys are very active and can be seen scooting around the substrate of your aquarium. They are reef safe and should be housed in aquariums with rockwork and sand beds. The live rock and sand act as a refuge for copepods to breed, which the Ruby Dragonet will feed on. Getting this fish to eat prepared foods can be challenging, which is why the Ruby Dragonet is not recommended to the beginner hobbyist. Try starting them on live foods like baby brine shrimp and copepods then segueing them over to rotifers, prawn eggs and other small nutritious foods. They have a small adult size of about 3" and are a great candidate for smaller aquariums. Their bodies are mottled red and yellow. Males will have a drastic yellow and brown sailfin dorsal fin. The Ruby Dragonets are found inhabiting the rubbles of reefs and up to 38 meters of depth.
