Centropyge angels have forever been a favorite with hobbyists due to their smaller adult size, colorations and hardiness. There are several dwarf angelfish available to hobbyists these days, but one not commonly recognized is the beautiful Rusty Angel. Their small adult size of 4" means they can go into aquariums as small as 45 gallons, and they should be able to be perfectly happy in a 70-gallon tank at grow out. Provide a plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing. Like any other dwarf angel, they can be aggressive with other small angels and similarly shaped/colored fish. The Rusty Angel is not the best choice for a reef aquarium because they tend to nip on corals and clam mantles. They inhabit seaward and rocky reefs of the Western Pacific where algal growth is excessive. This angel can be found up to 30 meters deep. The Rusty Angel has a golden orange body with irregular shaped spots that follow a vertical pattern. Then they have a neon blue outlining on its fins.

  • For continued health, provide a varied diet of marine meaty foods, angelfish-based foods and algae-based foods
  • Not Reef safe: may disturb mobile and sessile invertebrates
  • Add to an aquarium with ample swimming room and rockwork for grazing/hiding
  • Has spines over their gills, use caution when catching to avoid entangling the angel in a net
